A truck bell housing is sometimes used, but the clutch fork is in the wrong location to properly match the passenger linkage. These are the instructions for installing the adapter plate.
  1. Remove old 3 speed transmission
  2. Remove old crossmember or modify it to fit the new transmission. See our p/n 2200.
  3. Replace clutch disc with 85-90 Chevrolet S10 clutch disc. (NAPA p/n RCF4203, not included)
  4. Attach trans adapter to the bell housing with (2) 3/8-16 flat head socket screw in the top holes and (2) 3/8-16 hex head cap screws, lock washers and flat washers in the bottom holes. The centering ring fits forward into the bell housing.
  5. Remove the bearing retainer from the front of the S10 transmission and machine as follows:
    1. Face the flange to .300" thick to clear the centering ring in the adapter. Some flanges are thin and do not require machining.
    2. Shorten the sleeve to 3 5/8" from mounting surface.
    3. Countersink holes to fit (4) 8mm countersink socket head screws

Note: We can perform the machine work on the bearing retainer for $45 including U.S. return postage.

  6. Drill out the transmission mounting holes to 1/2" diameter.
  7. Install the transmission with 1/2"-13 mounting bolts. The shorter bolts and flat washers go in the lower two holes. Be sure the lower bolts do not bottom on the bell housing
  8. Be sure all attaching bolts are tight.
